The most comprehensive guide to setting up a Linn LP12 (which was developed/copied) from the RD11 is by Peter Swain of dealer "Cymbiosis", in 3 parts - part 1 at:. The platter should sit level and with 3 or 4 mm clearance between the bottom edge of the platter and the stainless steel ( inox in french? ) top plate.Īlthough Thorens and Acoustic Research (who both built the " original" suspended sub-chassis turntables which the Ariston RD11 was inspired by) used sponge damping inside the suspension springs it was left out of the LP12 design as it was thought to reduce the effectiveness of the suspension, it may be worth trying your deck without the sponge, especially if it is old and a bit hardened with age. Only then can you set the suspension springs to achieve the correct operating height. To set the suspension you need to have the deck assembled as you intend to use it, that is with the outer platter fitted and the arm also fitted, so that the weight of the complete turntable is as it will be used.
